IREVA HP COACHING STAFF

IREVA’s HP Coaching Staff enters its sixth season working together to develop a successful HP program for the region. The coaching team has been together since the first HP camp in 2006 and has led the overall development of the IREVA HP program. In 2010 the IREVA region was represented at the USA Volleyball HP National Championships in Wisconisin Wells, Wisconsin in the Junior age division. Each year the IREVA HP program has reached another milestone and the staff looks forward to another great year in 2011.

In 2011, Coach Steve Pike begins his tenth season as Head Coach of SUNY Potsdam’s women’s volleyball program. In 2008, Pike guided the Bears to a second place finish in the ECAC Championships. Over the course of the last six seasons, Pike has led his team to three 20-win seasons and three trips to the SUNYAC post-season tournament. In 2005 Coach Pike was named SUNYAC Coach of the Year. In the summer of 2009, Pike served as Head Coach for the Eastern Door Senior women’s volleyball team that competed at the North American Indigenous Games in Cowichan, Canada. This team earned a bronze medal in the games. Prior to assuming head coaching duties, Pike served one year as an assistant for the Bears program. Coach Pike, a USAV CAP Level II certified coach, earned his master’s degree from SUNY Potsdam. Coach Pike’s family, wife, Heather, son, Nicholas, and daughter Brynn, are active supporters of the HP athletes.

Coach Johan Dulfer just completed his fifth season as the Head Women’s Volleyball Coach at Clarkson University. In just five seasons, Coach Dulfer, the 2007 and 2010 Liberty League Coach of the Year, has led the emergence of the Clarkson program from a 7-25 program in 2006 to four consecutive 20+ win seasons, the program’s first-ever Liberty League Championship in 2009 and two consecutive NCAA appearances in 2009 and 2010. Prior to his arrival at Clarkson, Coach Dulfer served as the First Assistant Coach at James Madison University from 2003 to 2006. The Dukes reached the CAA playoffs twice in that three year span. Before that, he served as Graduate Assistant at the University of Minnesota which reached the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA tournament. A native of The Netherlands, Coach Dulfer holds a CAP II certification.

Coach Sue Medley begins her sixth year at the helm of the IREVA HP program. Prior to her work with IREVA, Medley spent twenty-three years in the collegiate volleyball coaching ranks while serving as Head Coach at the University of Maine, Cornell University, and Saint Mary’s College and as an assistant at Kansas State University. At Maine, Medley started the school’s first-ever NCAA Division I volleyball program and en route, the Black Bears reached the America East conference championship match in their second year of competition with scholarship student-athletes and produced 1 AVCA Regional All-American, 11 All-Conference Selections, all while maintaining a team GPA of 3.23. Medley also spent one season at Quinnipiac University working to revitalize that program. In 2004, Medley received USAVolleyball’s Meritorious Service Award for her contributions to the sport. Medley played collegiate volleyball at the University of Notre Dame. Medley, owner of Gladjean Consulting, Inc., heads a private consulting firm that specializes in research, strategy, international trade, leadership and performance.
